On Friday, August 27, 1954, a team from Schenectady, New York won the world championship of Little League Baseball. After winning that world championship the young players went the inevitable way of all Little Leaguers - they grew up. Now 20 twenty years later (1974), they are in their early 30s and none of them achieved their dreams, not one became a United States Senator, not one became a Major League baseball player as predicted in 1954. Each has his own story, for instance the captain of the team, made it briefly to the Major Leagues in 1966, then played in Japan where his career ended after punching his manager in the dugout. Then there is the catcher's story of how he lost his scholarship at Syracuse University after playing basketball in an unauthorized tournament. The star pitcher severly injured his arm in high school football and today can't even throw a ball across a street. There are a collection of story about this talented, and promising team of youngsters, whose dreams didn't match life's reality. A good sobering read.
